AWS builds search system for AI's 'bursty workflows'
Amazon Web Services has launched OpenSearch Serverless, a new search and vector database tailored for AI agents. The new system allows for instant scaling based on demand, reducing costs when idle, the company says. As AI agents become more common, with predictions of machine-generated traffic exceeding human traffic by 2027, cloud providers are rethinking their infrastructure. The new service decouples compute from storage, aiming to enhance efficiency and resource management for enterprises deploying AI solutions.
Amazon Web Services has officially launched OpenSearch Serverless, a fully managed search and vector database designed specifically for AI agents and generative AI workloads.
The new service offers instant scaling based on real-time demand, automatically reducing costs during idle periods. This makes it significantly more cost-efficient for variable AI workloads.
As AI agents grow more prevalent — with forecasts predicting machine-generated internet traffic will surpass human traffic by 2027 — cloud providers are evolving their infrastructure to better support this shift. OpenSearch Serverless decouples compute from storage, allowing enterprises to run high-performance search and vector operations more efficiently while improving overall resource management.
This launch reflects AWS’s push to provide specialized tools for the next wave of AI-driven applications.
