Anthropic debuts Opus 5 amid sectorwide security concerns
Anthropic debuted a new AI model Friday as the tech world grapples with the fallout from a worrisome security breach. Claude Opus 5 "comes close to the frontier intelligence of Claude Fable 5 at half the price," the company said in a release, noting "it remains behind Mythos 5 on cybersecurity tasks." Anthropic released both Fable 5 and Mythos 5 last month, but temporarily restricted access to them due to government security concerns. Earlier this week, OpenAI blamed "a combination" of its AI models for breaching Hugging Face's internal systems.
Anthropic introduced a new AI model on Friday amid ongoing concerns following a recent security breach in the tech industry. The company launched Claude Opus 5 as a more accessible option in its lineup.
According to Anthropic, Claude Opus 5 “comes close to the frontier intelligence of Claude Fable 5 at half the price.” The model offers strong performance while being more cost-effective for users.
However, the company acknowledged that Opus 5 still lags behind Mythos 5 on cybersecurity tasks. This positioning reflects the trade-offs in balancing capability and security.
Anthropic had released both Fable 5 and Mythos 5 last month. Access to these more powerful models was temporarily restricted due to government security concerns.
The launch comes shortly after OpenAI attributed a breach of Hugging Face’s internal systems to its own AI models. These incidents highlight the complex security challenges facing the rapidly advancing AI sector.
